Bennett (Rear Admiral)

Rear Admiral Bennett

Rear Admiral Bennett was the Judge Advocate General of Starfleet in 2373.

When Doctor Lewis Zimmerman discovered that Doctor Julian Bashir had been genetically engineered, Bashir's parents, Richard and Amsha, contacted Bennett with the help of Captain Benjamin Sisko and struck a deal to allow Doctor Bashir to continue his medical practice and Starfleet service. Richard Bashir pleaded guilty to illegal genetic engineering, and was sentenced to two years in a penal colony in New Zealand.

Bennett believed strongly in the Federation's law against genetic engineering, considering a necessary "firewall" against the creation of an Augment like Khan Noonien Singh. History was not Bennett's strong point, however, as he mis-dated the Eugenics Wars by around two centuries. (DS9: "Doctor Bashir, I Presume")

Bennett was played by J. Patrick McCormack. While he was referred to as a "rear admiral" in dialogue, he wore the insignia of a full admiral, four pips in a square flag officer insignia device. The correct insignia would have been the two-pip variant seen on previous rear admirals Brand and Erik Pressman.
