Drema iv

Drema IV.

Drema IV is an Class M planet located in the Selcundi Drema sector.

The inhabitants of this planet are called dremans

The Enterprise was the first Starfleet ship which surveyed the planet. During this survey Drema IV was found geological instable.

During this time Lieutenant Commander Data picked up a low-level RF signal which was send by the dreman girl Sarjenka. She asked if there was 'anyone out there' which prompted Data to say 'yes'.When Data found out that vulcanic activity was increasing, he told Captain Picard of his contacts with the Dreman girl. Because Data's actions violated the Prime Directive, Picard called for a meeting with his senior staff to decied weather or not they must help the Dremans. After much debat Data was told to sever all contact with Drema IV, but when Picard heard Sarjenka's voice, telling Data she was afraid, he decieded that Sarjenka's call for help was valid and that they must try to help de Dremans.

The survey team, under the leadership of Acting Ensign Wesley Crusher, already found out what was causing the geological instability. The problem was the natural occuring dilithium, which absorbs the radiant heat of the planet, focus it and turns it into mechanical energy, this increase the tectonic stresses which would tere the planet apart.

By firing Class 1 probes fitted with resonators into the planet, they could emit harmonic vibrations which would shatter the lattices and reduce the tectonic stress level.

This is the reason why Drema IV is the only habitable planet in the Selcundi Drema sector, all other planets still suffer from tectonic stresses.
