Roast of beef

Roast of beef

Beef was the term for the meat butchered off of an Earth cow or related livestock.

In 2267, Korob created a table consisting of several foods, including a giant roast of beef, roast peacock, and boar's head. (TOS: "Catspaw")

In 2367, while re-enacting a scene from A Christmas Carol on the holodeck of the USS Enterprise-D, Lieutenant commander Data, as Ebenezer Scrooge, told Jacob Marley 's ghost that he didn't believe in him, for "You may be an undigested bit of beef, a blot of mustard, a crumb of cheese, a fragment of an underdone potato." (TNG: "Devil's Due")

"Beef" was also a slang term for a complaint on Earth in the 1920s. In 2268, after leaving Sigma Iotia II, James T. Kirk asked a brooding Leonard McCoy what his beef was, having already heard an equally perturbed Spock out. (TOS: "A Piece of the Action")
