Beam technology is the study of energy beams for weapons, transporter, and deflector applications. This course involves past and present designs and theoretical designs. Students build and test beam weapons, a transporter, and a deflector dish and are graded on efficiency and creativity and problem-solving skills. This class is to train future engineers who will serve on starships and starbases. This course prepared Chief Miles O'Brien to be transporter operator on the USS Enterprise-D and chief of operations on the Deep Space 9 space station. (TNG: "Where Silence Has Lease"; DS9: "Emissary")
