Basil Poledouris (21 August 19458 November 2006; age 61) was an Emmy-award winning composer, who, before gaining fame in film music, appeared as a background extra in three episodes of Star Trek: The Original Series.

Poledouris filmed his scenes for "Errand of Mercy" on Friday 27 January 1967 on location at the "Arab Village" part of the 40 Acres backlot. He filmed his scenes for "Obsession" on Thursday 12 October 1967 at Desilu Stage 10 and his scenes for "Patterns of Force" on Wednesday 29 November 1967 on location at the Paramount Pictures lot.

In addition to appearing on Star Trek, Poledouris' uncredited roles during the 1960s included an appearance in a film written by Gene L. Coon, titled First to Fight. Aside from Coon, several other faces from behind-the-scenes on Star Trek were involved with the film, including Fred Steiner, Phil Adams, Chuck Courtney, Eddie Hice, Chuck O'Brien, and Jerry Summers. Ronald R. Rondell also appeared in the film.

Later in his career, Poledouris composed the soundtracks for such films as Conan the Barbarian (1982), RoboCop (1987, with Ronny Cox, Robert DoQui, Miguel Ferrer, Kurtwood Smith, Peter Weller, and Ray Wise), The Hunt for Red October (1990, with Ronald Guttman, Gates McFadden, Daniel Davis, Timothy Carhart, and Boris Krutonog), Free Willy (1993, with Lori Petty and Richard Riehle), and Starship Troopers (1997, with Dina Meyer, Clancy Brown, Christopher Curry, Lenore Kasdorf, and Brenda Strong).
