A bar is an establishment, place, or business where beverages, often containing alcohol or synthehol, are sold or otherwise distributed and consumed. A bar also refers to the long, raised table that such establishments usually contain.
A person who "tends" bar by serving drinks is called a bartender. The owner or proprietor of a bar, who is sometimes also the bartender, is sometimes called a barkeep.
Bars are often attached to restaurants or serve food in addition to beverages. They will also sometimes offer entertainment, such as games or music, either recorded or performed live.
