Bantaca spire

A bantaca spire (holographic replica)

Bantaca spires were flat-topped obelisks around which ancient Bajoran cities were built. Measuring eleven meters tall, bantaca spires were made from hundreds of stones fitted so tightly together that they didn't require mortar. The spire marked the city's position in the cosmos, and there were symbols on its sides which represented the city's coordinates.

In 2373, Benjamin Sisko used the image of a bantaca spire in the icon painting of B'hala to locate the lost city. The city's real bantaca spire was unearthed deep underground. (DS9: "Rapture")

The spire was designed by John Eaves and Fritz Zimmerman. (Star Trek Encyclopedia 2nd ed., p. 32)
