The Bajoran system was an inhabited star system. This system contained fourteen planets, with Bajor being the largest, and a plasma field. This plasma field, named the Denorios Belt, was located between the orbits of Bajor IX and Bajor X and formed a natural border between the inner and outer system. (DS9: "The Nagus") This system was located approximately 30,000 light years from the galactic core in the Alpha Quadrant. (Star Trek: Voyager, Season 7 production art )
During the 24th century, it was a key system for the United Federation of Planets and the Dominion during the Dominion War, as it contained the Bajoran wormhole, the only stable connection to the Gamma Quadrant. The system was briefly occupied by the Dominion in 2373-2374, but was later retaken by the Federation as a result of Operation Return. (DS9: "Emissary", "Favor the Bold", "Sacrifice of Angels")

Background information Edit
According to the Deep Space Nine Technical Manual the proper name of the Bajoran sun was "Bajor-B'hava'el." (citation needed • edit) This information was repeated in several other sources, including the post-"What You Leave Behind" relaunch novels. Other sources, like the Star Trek: Star Charts (p. 34) called the sun "B'hava'el". Star Trek: Star Charts (p. 34) stated that Bajor was the seventh planet of this system.
Finally, according to StarTrek.com, Bajor VIII is also known as "Andros".
