Bagpipes were an Earth musical instrument, normally associated with Scotland, that have been used to play traditional military and religious music.
Montgomery Scott, a native of Scotland, was proficient in playing this instrument. He played Amazing Grace in honor of his friend and commanding officer, Captain Spock, at his memorial service in 2285 aboard the USS Enterprise. (Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan)
