Axanar was an inhabited planet. This was the homeworld for the Axanar, a warp-capable humanoid species.

In 2151, Starfleet first learned of this planet upon making first contact with the Axanar. (ENT: "Fight or Flight")

Prior to 2252, Captain Garth of Izar won a major victory at Axanar. A written account of this battle was read by James T. Kirk when he was a cadet at Starfleet Academy. Into the 2260s, this account was required reading at the Academy. As a cadet, Kirk was on a peace mission to this planet. After the successful completion of this mission, he was awarded the Palm Leaf of Axanar. (TOS: "Court Martial", "Whom Gods Destroy")

According to the Star Trek: Star Charts (p. 60 & 66; "United Federation of Planets I") and the Stellar Cartography: The Starfleet Reference Library ("Federation Historical Highlights, 2161-2385"), Axanar was located in the Axanar (Epsilon Eridani) system. This binary system with two K-class stars was located in the Beta Quadrant. On May 6, 2151, this system was visited by the Enterprise. In 2378, Axanar was listed as a Federation member.
