The autonomous regeneration sequencer was a Borg device designed to "counteract resistance". The sequencers prevented elements of Borg technology from being removed by automatically replacing lost linkages. They could be disabled if each sequence conduit was disconnected from the insertion juncture. The Borg assimilated the pattern duplication design from Species 259. (VOY: "The Gift")

It is not clear what the "linkages" replaced by the sequencers are for. They may have something to do with plasma relays.
