Assassination is the act of killing someone, with (if possible) a more negative connotation then murder. Generally, assassination falls into one of two categories. Assassination can refer to killing someone for money, and people who do this for a living are called assassins. Assassination can also refer to killing someone who is particularly prominent, like a government official.
Klingon Emperor Reclaw of the Second Dynasty was assassinated by General K'Trelan. (DS9: "You Are Cordially Invited...")
