Template:Realworld Template:2009spoiler The Aptera Typ-1 is a prototype two-seat, three-wheeled electric automobile designed and built by the Aptera company. Although not yet in production, the futuristic vehicle is being used on the set of 2009's Star Trek. [1]

The vehicle is designed to be extremely fuel efficient, achieving 230 miles per gallon and costing approximately a penny per mile. It operates on an internal battery which can be easily charged in one's home. [2][3] It has a low-drag, aerodynamic body shape makes which increases its speed and makes it look almost like a spacecraft, but it does not sacrifice comfort, drivability, or safety. [4] The vehicle is built from 14 structural parts, which enhances its passengers' safety. [5]

The Aptera Typ-1 is registered as a motorcycle due to its weight and wheel layout, but it will not require a motorcycle license to drive since it has three wheels. It has yet to be officially crash-tested, but it has faired well in computer crash-test simulations. [6][7]
