The Andorian Imperial Guard was the primary military force of the Andorian Empire, and maintained both starships and infantry. It had ranks of general, captain, commander, and lieutenant, and was staffed with both male and female personnel. The Imperial Guard had been in existence for at least four Andorian generations prior to 2153. Members of the Imperial Guard were apparently recruited at a very young age, as they were said to be trained in combat since childhood.
The standard sidearm issued to Imperial Guardsmen is an assualt-rifle sized weapon which fires blue energy beams. It does not have a stun setting. (ENT: "Cease Fire", "Proving Ground")
When a Guardsman died far from home, it was his compatriots' duty to take a piece of the fallen back with them to Andoria (e.g. a vial of their blood). This item was to be taken to the Wall of Heroes. (ENT: "United")
The Andorian Imperial Guard warship Kumari led a task force in the Vulcan invasion of Andoria in 2154. (ENT: "Kir'Shara") It was later destroyed, with the loss of all but 19 crew members, by a Romulan craft disguised as a Tellarite vessel. (ENT: "Babel One") Commanders who lose ships under their command are seldom reassigned to the command of another starship. (ENT: "The Aenar")
