Anabolic photoplaser

An anabolic photoplaser

An anabolic photoplaser is a medical instrument similar to medical scanners of the 2260s.

In 2293, Doctor Leonard McCoy used an anabolic photoplaser to scan Gorkon, Chancellor of the Klingon High Council, shortly after he was assassinated. (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country)

The name "anabolic photoplaser" originates from the film's script. [1]
The prop used as this medical instrument was based on the medical scanner prop from Star Trek: The Original Series. (text commentary, Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (Special Edition) DVD)
