An anabolic photoplaser is a medical instrument similar to medical scanners of the 2260s.
In 2293, Doctor Leonard McCoy used an anabolic photoplaser to scan Gorkon, Chancellor of the Klingon High Council, shortly after he was assassinated. (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country)
