The Alpha Majoris system was a planetary system in the Alpha Quadrant. It contained six planets, among them Alpha Majoris I, which was home to a warp-capable civilization as well as the non-sentient mellitus. Nearby inhabited star systems included the Talar, Galen, Kiley, Gamma Trianguli, Scalos, and Algol systems.

By 2259, the Federation had established first contact with this system and could visit it freely. That year, the location of this system was labeled on a stellar cartography chart that was seen on the USS Enterprise's ready room viewscreen. The system's symbol had a blue color, indicating that it was affiliated with the Federation. (TOS: "Wolf in the Fold"; SNW: "Strange New Worlds", "Children of the Comet")

In 2293, the location of Alpha Majoris in the Milky Way Galaxy was labeled on the star chart "The Explored Galaxy", which was seen in James T. Kirk's quarters aboard the USS Enterprise-A. (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country okudagram)

In the 24th century, this system was a destination on the commercial transport routes. (TNG-R: "Inheritance")

The system's location was labeled in a Federation star chart that was in Fleet Admiral Kirsten Clancy's office at Starfleet Headquarters in 2399 and on the bridge of the USS Titan-A in 2401. The Alpha Majoris system was in or near to neutral space. (PIC: "Maps and Legends", "The Next Generation", "Disengage")

According to Star Trek: Star Charts (p. 47) and Stellar Cartography: The Starfleet Reference Library ("Federation Historical Highlights, 2161-2385"), the Alpha Majoris (Dubhe, Alpha Ursae Majoris) system was a quadrinary system with a pair of K-class stars, an F-class star, and an A-class star. In the late 24th century, it was an independent system.
