Alpha Eridani II was the second planet of the Alpha Eridani planetary system. This planet was aligned directly between Earth and Argelius II. Sometime between 2151 and 2156, this world was colonized by Humans.

In 2156, the Redjac entity was responsible for ten women being knifed to death in the city of Heliopolis on this planet. (TOS: "Wolf in the Fold")

Background

Humans founded colonies on M-class planets. Conjecturally, Alpha Eridani II might be M-class. (TNG: "Justice")

The pronunciation of this planet sounds suspiciously like "Alpha Aradoni II", which was also supported by the closed captioning for the episode. However, because Alpha Eridani was a real star and Alpha Aradoni was not, the spelling of the latter is most likely incorrect. Unfortunately, neither the Star Trek Concordance nor the Star Trek Encyclopedia refer to either. The former does refer, however (as does Template:St) to "Alpha Proxima II", which might have actually been the name of the planet prior to a last minute script or dialogue change. The spelling of "Alpha Eridani II" can be found in the Redjac entry at the aforementioned Template:St and in the Star Trek Encyclopedia, neither of which make any reference whatsoever to Alpha Proxima II.

The date of the colonization was conjectural. Alpha Eridani was located approximately 139 light years from the Sol system. According to Captain Jonathan Archer, in 2151, the furthest that Humans had traveled was 90 light years. (ENT: "Two Days and Two Nights"). Heliopolis ("Sun" + "City") was a Greek word from antiquity, and was the name of a city in ancient Egypt.

According to the Star Trek: Star Charts ("United Federation of Planets II"), Alpha Eridani (Achernar) was located in the Beta Quadrant. This was a binary star system. Alpha Eridani A was a B-class star with a magnitude of +1, which was a hundred times brighter than Sol. Alpha Eridani B was a B-class star.
