Ali Ries is an artist from Salem, Oregon who specializes in digital animation and design. [1]

She has worked in films and television as a CGI artist, visual effects artist, and digital effects artist, contributing to shows such as Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome, Dexter, and Defiance, and films including Riddick (2013).

For Star Trek, she has contributed to several novel covers for Pocket Books, usually working with Doug Drexler, with whom she became acquainted while working on Blood and Chrome and Defiance. Her first cover was for The Folded World, and that was followed by Armageddon's Arrow and Ascendance. Her nebula imagery also provides backgrounds for all three novels in the Star Trek: Prometheus trilogy.

She concurrently contributed artwork for the November image in Star Trek: Ships of the Line (2014), also with Drexler. In 2013, she contributed the Vulcan map and backgrounds for four other maps in the Stellar Cartography: The Starfleet Reference Library. [2] She continued to contribute stellar background imagery for several spreads in the 2015, 2018, 2020 and 2021 outings of the Ships of the Line calendar series, mostly in conjunction with her patron Drexler.

Along with Andrew Probert and Adam Howard, Ries contributes to "Enterprise in Space" as a member of their board of advisors. Apart form this, she has been a prolific contributor to various Star Trek fan film productions such as Prelude to Axanar, Star Trek: Renegades, Starship Farragut, Star Trek: Horizon, and lastly, Star Trek Continues.
