Background information[]
Although Alaska was not mentioned in "Unnatural Selection", Riker's age, as of stardate 42493, was stated in the episode.
Retroactive continuity: A 20th century-era political map of Earth was stored in the USS Enterprise library computer in 2254. According to this map, the International Date Line was between the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (later Russia) and the United States of America. The line went through the North Pacific Ocean and the Bering Sea. This map was among the materials viewed by the Talosians when they scanned the Enterprise computer. (TOS: "The Cage")
The script of DS9: "One Little Ship" mentioned another Alaskan location, Point Barrow.
Both the Star Trek Encyclopedia (4th ed., vol. 1, p. 223) and StarTrek.com identified Valdez, Alaska as Riker's place of birth. [1]
The Alaska pavilion in Star Trek Nemesis was built as a set on Paramount Stage 32.
Alaska was used as a filming location twice. It was the first filming location ever outside of California when Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country filmed some Rura Penthe scenes there (more information here). Aerial shots of Alaska were also used to establish Delta Vega in Star Trek.
