Star Trek: A Taste of Armageddon was an adaptation of stills taken from the first season episode "A Taste of Armageddon" of Star Trek: The Original Series, into a photonovel, the fourth release in the series. Aside from an episode cast list, glossary and trivia quiz, the book also included a mini-interview with guest actress Elinor Donahue, who portrayed Federation Assistant Commissioner Nancy Hedford in the episode.

- Concurrently with this release, a boxed set was released containing the first four outings of the series.
- This was the fourth of Bantam Books's Star Trek photonovel releases to see internationally translated editions. Translated into Dutch as Een Voorproefje van Armageddon, the Dutch language edition saw a release in 1979, whereas a German language edition was released the same year as Duell der Planeten.
