- The Romulan Senate learn of a star going supernova that poses a threat to the entire galaxy. They task Ambassador Spock to pilot a specialized ship, equipped with red matter, with the intent to engulf the supernova by creating an artificial black hole. (Star Trek)
- The supernova reaches Romulus, destroying the planet. (Star Trek)
- Spock launches red matter into the supernova, creating the artifical black hole and neutralizing the star. The resulting black hole consumes his ship along with the nearby Romulan mining vessel Narada commanded by Nero. (Star Trek)
Apocrypha
According to the Star Trek: Countdown comic book series, the star that threatens the galaxy is the Hobus Star. The comic and the Star Trek movie website both give the name for Spock Prime's ship as the Jellyfish.
At some point before this year, Data is reincarnated in the body of B-4 when his neural nets are successfully imprinted onto B-4's programming and becomes captain of the USS Enterprise-E and Jean-Luc Picard becomes the Federation Ambassador to Vulcan. (Star Trek: Countdown)
