Notes
According to the Star Trek Encyclopedia, a Vulcan science mission attempts to seal a subspace rupture in the Hanoli system. The attempt fails and the rupture expands exponentially, obliterating the entire system, including the Vulcans. (3rd ed., p.183). However, the episode states that the rift was only discovered in the 23rd century.
